GB4LL ... the Wirral & District Amateur Radio Club

The 2007 event is now over, and we thank all those stations who we worked over the weekend, and are sorry we couldn't work everyone.  We hope you all enjoyed the event as much as we did and we look forward to even better conditions in 2008.  73  (Best Wishes).

We have become regular participant in the world-wide amateur radio activation of "Lighthouse and Lightships on the Air" which this year took place on the weekend of Sat 18th & Sun 19th August 2007.

Geoff G4WUA, was once again our Station Manager, and is an active member of both WADARC and The Friends of Leasowe Lighthouse.  QSL will be via the Buro or direct if you send your qsl with return envelope.

Antennas for 2007 were a full size Windom and a long wire.  We also had an APRS station running on 144.800.

Working with the Friends of Leasowe Lighthouse, we set up the Amateur Radio stations on the second floor of Leasowe Lighthouse (pictured right) and used the Special Event callsign GB4LL.

This is the oldest brick built lighthouse in the United Kingdom and is regularly open to visitors on a Sunday.  (Please check the Friends of Leasowe Lighthouse website for Opening Times)On "Open Days", depending on numbers, groups of 15 people are allowed to climb to the top with a guide.  On a clear day the old lamp-house at the top provides spectacular views over the Irish Sea from Liverpool bay to the North Wales coast, so if your visiting, remember to carry your camera and some binoculars.
