... the Wirral & District Amateur Radio Club
|
We are regular participant in the world-wide amateur radio activation of "International Lighthouse and Lightships Weekend" and operated again in 2011 from Leasowe Lighthouse. See report and photos below:- Geoff G4WUA, was once again our Station Manager, assisted by Simon 2E0BDO, and is an active member of both WADARC and The Friends of Leasowe Lighthouse. QSL via the Buro or direct if you send your qsl with return envelope. Date for your diaries - ILLW next year will be on 18th & 19th August 2012 Working with the Friends of Leasowe Lighthouse, we set up the Amateur Radio stations on the second floor of Leasowe Lighthouse (pictured right) and used the Special Event callsign GB4LL. Leasowe, is the oldest brick built lighthouse in the United Kingdom and is regularly open to visitors on a Sunday. (Please check the Friends of Leasowe Lighthouse website for Opening Times). On "Open Days", depending on numbers, groups of 15 people are allowed to climb to the top with a guide. On a clear day the old lamp-house provides spectacular views over the Irish Sea from Liverpool bay to the North Wales coast, so if you're visiting, remember to carry your camera and some binoculars.
