I have recently discovered your interesting website. I lived in Ainsdale in the late 40's early 50's and I and my sister attended St Johns School. I was a pupil there from 1945/1949 and my sister 3 years behind. I was a member of St Johns choir from approx 1949 to 1952. I have vivid memories of the vicar at the time, Anthony Dixon. I can recall too the choir vestry and learning how to ring the church bell before each service. My sister Barbara was married at the church to Brian Jackson in October 1962. I'd really like to hear from anyone of that era who may remember us.

I was at St John's primary school from 1958 to 1963, and whilst I was not a regular chorister, as was my oldest friend, John Seddon, who I see has already contributed to this site, our school assembly took place in the church every Friday morning, presided over by Reverend Dixon. These schooldays shine brilliantly in my memory.

I must say I'm a little baffled, not to say disappointed by the number of messages left on this board by people who have just been placing messages on websites at random.

I was invited to view your wonderful website by one of your parishoners, Arthur Ledger. It was very informative and lovely to see. The church reminds me of the one where my wife of 32 years and I were married. The stained glass windows and organ are beautiful. The war memorial is quite awe inspiring as I have only read about the history of England in the wars. The descriptions of the parts and areas of the curch were ideal to help me visualize what my new friends experience. May your congregation continue to be a light in the wilderness for those in search. And may the Church be our guide as we in the U.S., and all our allies, find ourselves in a war against terrorism. Blessings upon us all.

I was a chorister from around 1963 until about 1969. Fred Roberts was the organist. My father was also in the choir. I can still recall the carvings on the choir stalls - though never contributed to them myself I hasten to add. Nice to see the church is still thriving.

A wonderful treatise on St John's, congratulations to all involved. I attended the school from 1941 - 1942.And have worshipped at the Church since 1945, apart from 5 years in the mid-sixties,so that this presentation of the Church is particularly endearing to me.If there are any old school friends out there do please contact me.

I spent 4 yrs at St. Johns 65-69, with Michael Davies, John Caine and Michael Foster - we had a 'pop' group that used to play assemblies and other things. My sister Judy ( 2yrs younger) and brother Roger (3 younger) all went there. I remember selling sweets to raise school funds and being a milk moniter, football games and the dreaded slipper from Mr. Kearns for less than 12 out of 20. Mr Green (?) and the 11+ exam. Love to here from anyone who remembers,
