Southport Bach Choir has been bringing choral music to Southport for more than 40 years. The choir has between 30 and 40 amateur singers and performs mainly religious music. Despite our name we do not only sing music by J.S. Bach, see a full list ordered by composer or date. We used to be called the Southport Bach Society but after too many enquiries asking when our lectures were held we changed it to the Bach Choir. Since 1970 the choir has been conducted by David Williams, David is also organist at Holy Trinity Church, Hoghton Street where we perform most of our concerts
There are three main concerts in a season and normally at least one of them uses a professional orchestra and soloists. The orchestra is usually a mixture of students from the Royal Northern College of Music, who are just starting on their professional career, and experienced players from the north-west's established orchestras.

David Williams
David has announced that the Germain Requiem Concert on 21 June will be his last with the Southport Bach Choir. After 38 years with the choir he will be sorely missed and we wish him well in his 'retirement'.
We have already begun the search for a new conductor. For more information see our advert here.
