Professor Norman Jones, Director of the Impact Research Centre and A.A. Griffith Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. In its announcement, the Royal Academy described Professor Jones as being distinguished for international accomplishme nts in impact engineering. His most important achievement was to develop structural design formulae and analysis methods for hazard assessment and safety calculations which have been used throughout the engineering industry.
