The University's CTI Centre for Chemistry has been designated as a 'UNESCO associated centre for IT in Chemistry and Science', and in September Dr Alex Pokrovsky of UNESCO visited the Centre with representatives of the Royal Society.
The award, which is accompanied by funding to enable travel between the Centre and third world countries, is an important accolade, coming so soon after the relaunch of the CTI scheme with additional funding and institutional overheads.
Describing the award, Dr Steve Walker, Director of the CTI Centre for Chemistry, said: This is a tremendous boost for the Centre. Our work has always been highly regarded in the UK and within the EEC. This award enables us to help the emerging nations come to terms with using technology in the teaching environment. We are delighted that The University will be seen as a leader in this field.
