Esther Wilson (MB ChB 1996) has been chosen as one of the 140 Merseyside people to take part in an 18 month project in the Merseyside region, including a 10 week expedition to Namibia with Raleigh International. Raleigh is a registered charity youth organisation involved in community, conservation and adventure projects overseas for 18-25 year olds. The Milennium commission has donated money to Raleigh who have used this to create opportunities in three areas previously under-represented on expeditions, Merseyside being one of the three.
Dr Wilson is a volunteer at Liverpool Student Community Action, based in the Guild of Students, and will be one of the forty staff travelling to Namibia with the ventures in her capacity as a medic. On returning to Liverpool the volunteers will be committed to a 100 hour community project, which ma kes the scheme unique from the usual Raleigh expedition format. To participate, all volunteers are fundraising from local organisations and businesses both for the work in Namibia and in Merseyside.
