Dr James Chubb, Dean of College Studies, has recently been elected to serve as Chairman of the Council of Validating Universities (CVU) for the period 1998-2000. Jimmy Chubb has been involved in collaborative initiatives between the University and other academic institutions for many years, having acted as Dean of College Studies for the periods 1984-87, and again since 1992.
In earlier years college partnerships activity was confined to the local affiliated colleges which have for many years offered degrees of the University. Although University College Chester and Liverpool Hope University College continue to be major partners of the University for this work, newer pa rtnerships have been established with a number of local further education colleges for 1+3 or 2+2 degree programmes. However, in the past few years, the College Studies Unit, led by Dr Chubb, has facilitated a number of important new links further afield in Israel (Kidum College, for MA, MEd and do ctoral study), the USA (Trinity College, Indiana, for the accreditation of a range of degrees in Theology), London (the Finance and Leasing Association, for the accreditation of Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas) and the Isle of Man College, for a number of 2+2/1+2 degree schemes. Development of exist ing overseas partnerships (Inti College, Malaysia, the Cayman Islands Law School and others) is also being discussed.
The experience of involvement in this wide-ranging group of partner colleges will be invaluable to Dr Chubb in his period of office with the CVU, particularly in view of his expertise in the quality assurance aspects of partnership activity.
