An office worker who is described as representing the caring face of the University has won a prize for her outstanding contribution to the life and work of the University of Liverpool.
Madge Williamson, a clerical officer in the University's Faculty of Science is responsible for dealing with student enquiries. 'No matter how busy she is she always greets students and visitors with a smile of welcome. She truly represents the caring face of the University," said Professor Tony Har ris, Dean of the Faculty of Science.
Mrs Williamson received her award from Professor Philip Love, who also presented the following awards: Evans Memorial Prizes for mature students to Lyndy Stuart and Sherllynne Haggerty who both graduated last week with first class honours, in French and Hispanic Studies and Economic and Social Hist ory, respectively. Evans Memorial Prize for members of the administrative, clerical and secretarial staff to Ms Sue Irvine, clerical officer in the Administrative Services Office. Ms Irvine was nominated for her commitment, initiative and high level of ability in dealing with the work of the office . Beeston Prize for members of the University's staff who is also a graduate of the University and who have excelled in research to Dr Shaun Hawley, Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Biology. Dr Hawley is investigating the regulation of cell proliferation a nd has already made a discovery which has had a dramatic impact upon the work of his research group.
