Electronic Precinct - October 1996
Each year at its degree congregation the University confers
honorary degrees on a number of eminent people in recognition of
their achievements in the academic world, in public life in
general or in the local community. Our honorary graduates at the
summer degree congregations this year included Mrs Anson Chan,
Chief Secretary to the Hong Kong Government, Sir David Barnes,
Chief Executive of Zeneca and Sir Ronald Oxburgh, Rector of
Imperial College. The Joint Committee on Honorary Degrees, which
submits recommendations to the Senate and the Council for the
conferment of honorary degrees, would be happy to receive
suggestions of persons whose achievements are such that they
might be appropriate recipients of honorary degrees. Anyone
wishing to make a nomination should contact Catherine Jones in
the Vice-Chancellor's Office (ext 2008) for a nomination form.
Please note that all nominations should be made in confidence and
on no account should the person nominated be told of the
nomination.
