The University of Liverpool, together with the NHS, were organisers of a Healthy Night Clubs Conference to provide a forum for promoting health amongst young people and sharing models of good safety practice in night clubs.
George Howarth MP, Home Office Minister with responsibility for drugs policy and the policy on public entertaining and liquor licensing, addressed the conference, which was held at Liverpool's Cream Night-club.
In addition to Mr Howarth, other speakers included Professor John Ashton, North West Regional Director of Public Health, Anthony Wilson, Granada Television and Factory Records, Tony Spragg, First Leisure Corporation Ltd., Chris Earle, National Association of Licensed Door Supervisors and Dr Chris L uke, Accident and Emergency Consultant in Liverpool.
The organisers hope that the conference, aimed at representatives of Licensing Authorities, magistrates, members of drug action teams and Directors of Public Health also helped establishment figures to learn more about youth culture and encouraged night-club proprietors in finding out how they can contribute to an improvement in the health of young people.
