Dr Gordon Tatlock from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering recently hosted the mid-term assessment meeting for a European Commission Brite - Euram research programme on 'How to Improve the Failure Resistance of Alumina Scales on High Temperature Materials.' Six research groups from Paris, St Etienne, Stuttgart, Clausthal, Cranfield and Liverpool were represented together with industrial endorsers from Germany, France, The Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. The European Commission representatives were clearly impressed with the work, since funding for the project has now been confirmed for a further year.
