An international mathematical conference was held in Liverpool from 19 to 24 August in honour of Professor Terry Wall, FRS, whose 60th birthday falls in December of this year, and who is now Liverpool's longest serving professor, having been appointed in 1965. The theme of the meeting was singularity theory, Professor Wall's main current interest and an area for which Liverpool is a world centre. The conference was attended by over 80 mathematicians, with 70 foreign participants from as far afield as Hawaii, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Tel Aviv and St Petersburg. Funding for the conference came from the London Mathematical Society and the European Singularities Network which is administered from Liverpool. A conference proceedings is to be published by Cambridge University Press.
