The Malaysian Polytechnic Development (MPD) Project, managed in the UK by UNECIA (Universities of England Consortium for International Activities), has a wide range of consultancy opportunities being made available over the coming months. The project aims to assist the Ministry of Education in Malaysia in its plans to add three new polytechnics to its education system, and there are vacancies for lecturers to teach degree level students, and instructors to provide skill training.
The next departure dates for consultants, for short term contracts of six to twelve months, are in December 1996 and July 1997 in a number of areas, including: Civil Engineering; Wood Processing Technology; Electrical Engineering; Instrumentation and Control, Electrical Communications, Computer Technology, Medical Electronics, Industrial Automation; Mechanical Engineering; Polymers and Composites and Textile Finishing/Industrial Textiles.
Chief Executive of UNECIA, Gill Monaghan said, 'We are very pleased with the progress of the Malaysia Polytechnic Development Project which is helping the country to respond to the escalation in demand for trained technical manpower. There are seven polytechnics in Malaysia which train technicians to certificate and diploma levels, and this project aims to train nearly 1,000 lecturers and instructors to staff the three new institutions'.
'We hope there will be many academics from our consortium universities Bradford, Hull, Keele, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Salford, Sheffield and York who will be willing to share their expertise with the Malaysians and participate in this exciting opportunity.'
