A team of four runners representing the newly formed School of Biological Sciences entered the City of Liverpool Corporate Cup Run on Sunday 8 September. The team, comprising John Hughes, Lee Lomas, Ted Maden and Pat Turner, finished in the top twelve percent, coming 57th out of 478 teams, in a cumulative time of 88 mins 36 seconds for the 5 kilometre course. Lee Lomas' time of 18 mins 56 seconds made a key contribution to this highly respectable overall performance. The times of the other members, John Hughes (21 mins 13 sec), Ted Maden, at 60 years much the oldest member of the team (23 mins 15 sec) and Pat Turner (25 mins 12 sec) were no disappointments.
At least one other team from the School of Biological Sciences also completed the Run, comprising Ali Garoosi, Mark Hart, Brian Tomsett and Angel Tregova, finishing in a cumulative time of 102 min 11 sec. The Corporate Cup Run is an excellent event for fun runners as well as committed athletes. It is organised each year by the City of Liverpool Leisure Services Directorate and is advertised well in advance. Entries, for teams of four, need to be submitted before the specified closing date which is usually in mid or late August.
