The holders, Hightown, moved effortlessly through their group, and were joined in the second phase by their second team. Other quarter-finalists were Design 1 & 2, Sports Centre, Turkish Rovers, Mechanical Engineering and Persia.
The semi-final stage threw up two very close encounters. Hightown II went 2 goals up against Design I but a misplaced pass put Design back in the game and took the game to extra-time. The extra five minutes were too much for Hightown and Design scored the crucial goal to win 3-2.
The second semi-final was another tight affair. Hightown I were faced with a determined Sports Centre team. A final result of 2-1 to Sports Centre was a fair reflection of the game. It had, though, proved a bad day for the Hightown teams.
The final took place on Tuesday 16 January and was a nervy affair between Design and Sports Centre. Extra-time couldn't separate them and a 2-2 scoreline took them to penalties. It was Sports Centre, whose nerve held and they were victorious by 3 penalties to 1.
All in all a successful event. Thanks go to Jack Tasker and Mark Douglas for their refereeing and to Suzanne Yee for providing a photographic reminder of two weeks of frantic toil!
