The number of applications through the UCAS system has decreased nationally in line with the reduction in the number of permissible choices, from eight to six. However, this University received 27,074 applications by the UCAS closing date of 15 December. This placed Liverpool 13th in terms of absolute numbers but 1st in terms of increase in market share, with a figure of +11.5%.
The figures were welcomed by Dr Ian Pickering, Head of the Schools, Colleges, International Liaison and Admissions Service (SCILAS), who said: 'It is reassuring to know that our popularity is increasing. It is a reward for the effort put into recruitment by my colleagues in SCILAS and by the many members of academic staff who visit schools and colleges to promote the University. The current surge in popularity may be an indication of how well the new Undergraduate Prospectus has been received. We are very pleased with it ourselves and it looks as if potential applicants like it too. The new design has been incorporated into the Postgraduate Prospectus, CD-Rom Prospectus, the new University video and new display materials. It is also to be developed for use in undergraduate and postgraduate course leaflets, posters and the University's Internet entry.'
