In January, a year long campaign, YES (Year of Engineering Science) was launched throughout the UK to change the perception of the role played by engineers in our society. The campaign aims to show that engineers are designers and problem solvers, playing a key role in the quality of our lives and the wealth creation of the nation.
Part of the YES programme is the 27th Annual Conference of the Association of University Engineers, held from 2 to 4 July and hosted by Liverpool John Moores University. Henry Gun-Why, Design Group Leader of this University's Department of Buildings and Estates is the Conference Chairman. With a wide range of topics, from Waste Minimisation and Estate Management to the University's role in the refurbishment of the former Liverpool Royal Infirmary, and with visitors from as far afield as the universities of Texas and Dortmund, the two-day event has raised considerable interest.
