Calling all Women
The Women in Higher Education Register was launched early this year by CUCO (the Commission on University Career Opportunities) to track women in the sector with a view to supporting and promoting women in higher education in the UK. The Register will help reduce the barriers of discrimination at a ll levels. 'We aim to have women in 15% of top university jobs in 2002 and 25% by 2005!' says Caroline Fox, the projects administrator. The Register will analyse and collect information on women in higher education, and the project will also include workshops and discussion groups and other opportu nities for members to correspond with each other. 'The Register will develop the way its members want it to,' says Caroline. 'Its success is dependent on the input of its members.'
More information about the Register is available from 15 Prince's Garden, Exhibition Road, London, SW7 2AZ. The email address is aregister@ic.ac.uk.
Have your say at AUA
Plans are already well under way for the Association of University Administrators' annual conference 'A Profession for the 21st Century.' The eight AUA conference will take place at the University of Nottingham on 27 - 29 March 2000 and will include keynote presentations from leading figures in h igher education as well as over 160 working sessions on HE issues and professional skills.
Delegates who attended the 1999 AUA Conference held at UMIST gave the conference an excellent rating for the quality of the sessions and overall value for money. The AUA organisers intend that the millennium conference again achieves the highest standard as it explores the issues which the professi on will face in the 21st century. Proposals for session for the next conference are currently being developed. Colleagues who may be interested in making a presentation can find more details and a proposal form on the website http://www.man.ac.uk/aua. If you would like to find out more about the C onference, or the AUA in general, please contact John Quirk, the University of Liverpool's AUA Branch Correspondent on ext 2063 or email j.n.quirk@liv.ac.uk.
