Fifteen Guides from Formby were recent visitors to the Department of Physiology to qualify for their Science Investigation Badges. The visit was arranged by the Reverend Dr David Taylor, Lecturer in the Department, as part of the Department's general aim to make science more accessible.
The Guides took part in demonstrations of methods of measuring the rate and physiology of breathing, the measurement of heartbeats and even brain scans. Describing the visit, Dr Taylor said 'It was really good to see the enthusiasm that the girls showed for science. We see all of these things on " Casualty", and it is important that youngsters realise that they are tests that we can do relatively easily, and which give us useful information. The best bit of the morning was being able to allow the girls to do the experiments for themselves - because absolutely anyone can get involved in scie nce.'
