Sports Centre Manager Peter Sampara recently learned from Phil Hammond, Vice Chairman, of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, that the badge he designed for the Group is to be used as its official logo. The badge is included on the HFSG's web page along with other items for sale and general inf ormation about the campaign for 'Justice'. Since they were first produced in February of this year, sales of the badges (which cost £2 each) have raised almost £2,000.
In the wake of the tragedy at Hillsborough, Peter has been concerned that the Campaign for Justice should not be seen as exclusively the concern of the people of Merseyside, but that people outside the area should be made aware of the issues involved. He saw the badge as a simple but effective way to make the campaign visible. 'All the profit from the sale of the badges goes to the Hillsborough Family Support Group, and I've been very gratified not only by the volume of the sales, but by the variety of people who have bought the badges. I wanted to design something that would generate awaren ess of the campaign in a dignified way, and they've proved a great success - even with fans of opposing teams who have bought them at Liverpool matches.'
