The forums broke new ground in providing opportunities for representatives of both industry and the University to exchange information and establish contacts.
The Biological Sciences forum included presentations on areas of potential exploitation by three members of staff - Dr Andy Bates (cellular regulation and signalling), Dr George Britton (molecular medicine), and Dr Chris Green (molecular and environmental microbiology).
The Chemistry forum included presentations by Dr Robin Whyman (supercritical fluids), Dr Rasmita Raval (catalysis and surface science), Dr Andrew Carnell (the chemistry/biology interface) and Professor David Schiffrin (the work of the Department of Chemistry).
Both programmes included presentations by Merlin Ventures, the most successful biotechnology venture capital company in the UK. The company's founder, Professor Chris Evans, attended the Chemistry Forum and spoke about the optimum strategy for taking small to medium-sized enterprises to market.
Industry and academic delegates were also briefed on: European research funding opportunities; TCS Programmes; and support available through the Business Links.
The two events were organised by the Merseyside Teaching Company Scheme Centre, which is based in the Faculty of Engineering.
