As a result of a meeting early in 1997 between Brian McDonald; Alan Glover and Gerry Galletly, nine of the sixteen civil engineering graduates of 1947 met for the their first ever reunion in October. They were: Denys Charnock, Brian Cox, Keith Davies, Norman Fisher, Gerry Galletly, Alan (Charlie) G lover, Brian McDonald, Frank Rossiter and Peter Wilson. Four members of the class had, sadly died in the interim. They were: Malcolm Corlett, Laurence Poulton, Ian Ramsbotham and Bill Rennie. Bill Cowie is alive and well but could not attend the reunion. The whereabouts of the other two civils (W S Holden and H F Howarth) are not known.
After a buffet lunch in the Department of Civil Engineering, hosted by Professors John Bungey and Andrew Templeman, there was a tour of the Department - new to most of the 1947 civils, who had received their engineering education in the Harrison Hughes and Walker buildings (the former had been part ially demolished by a landmine in 1941 but had been rebuilt).
In the evening the group met for a convivial dinner at the Racquets Club in Chapel Street, Liverpool. After dinner all the participants gave short accounts of their careers, which were enjoyed by all. A further reunion has been planned for the near future.
