
Supercooks Phil Smith and Neil Kehoe
For the second year in succession a team of chefs from the University of Liverpool has won the Annual Cookery Challenge at a hard-fought competition held at Sheffield University.
The winning team from the Carnatic Halls of Residence comprised Phil Smith and Neil Kehoe.
The competing teams produced a 3-course meal for four people in a three hours for a total food cost of £28.00. The winning menu started with baked caramelised onion and goats cheese tart, topped with herbs, followed by a of breast of guinea fowl wrapped in pancetta and roasted on a bed of pilaff , barley, chestnuts and celery. Dessert was bread and butter pudding with rum, prunes and sauce Anglaise.
As part of their prize, the two chefs will leave their kitchen behind to enjoy a sumptuous meal at a gourmet restaurant of their choice.
