For a week in April Davina Moor a Chief Technician at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is taking part in the Trans-Borneo cycle challenge. This is a 224 mile cycle ride across Borneo through tropical rain forest and high mountain passes raising money for the charity Sense, the world's leading deafblind charity.
Davina is also acting as guardian to Patrick Sell who is 16 years old, his mother Dr Paula Sells is a member of staff at the LSTM who works on Snake Venom Research.
Davina and Patrick's goal is to raise over £4,000 in sponsorship to help the deafblind people of Britain. A lot of training which has started, plus hard work is needed for this challenge.
Sense is the world's leading deafblind voluntary organisation supporting and campaigning for people who are multi sensory impaired. They provide advice, support, information and services to families, carers and professionals.
The funds raised through sponsorship will be used to support new projects that provide care for the elderly who have acquired deafblindness in later life, training for children who are born with dual sensory impairment, with support and advice to their partners.
Despite the unique problems they face, many find help to develop and achieve their full potential through Sense's specialist support and training.
Anyone wishing to support Davina and Patrick in their 224 mile Trans-Borneo Cycle Challenge for Sense then please contact Davina at the LSTM Ext 2152.
