
The Vice-Chancellor recently presented the Sir Alastair Pilkington Awards for Teaching Excellence. The awards are made in recognition of outstanding contributions to teaching in the University. In most cases, the nominations are proposed by students, who are given an opportunity by this scheme to i dentify the qualities that they associate with excellent teaching.
Each of the winners (right, with the Vice-Chancellor) has contributed to the development and delivery of effective, and often innovative teaching.
Dr P A Winstanley (Pharmacology & Therapeutics) who teaches Dentistry students using the format of 'Patient Management Problems'.
Dr P Bradley (Health Care Education), Director of the Clinical Skills Resource Centre, which relates the basic science content of courses to their practical application in clinical settings.
Eur. Ing. T S Hedges (Civil Engineering) - for effective teaching of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Mr M W Guy & Mrs M Midgley (Tropical Medicine) - for their contribution to practical and laboratory classes.
Dr D Hall (Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work Studies)- for his work in the development of collaborative, community based teaching initiatives.
