Tomorows World

A camera crew spent a day in the School of Dentistry filming the latest in computerised restoration of teeth and the film was televised on Friday 19 January.

Nicholas Jedynakiewicz, lecturer in Clinical Dental Science, showed presenter Vivienne Parry how CAD/CAM techniques can be used to re-build even the most severely damaged teeth using ceramics which look as good and perform as well as natural teeth.

The Liverpool School is the only dental school in the country that is using this technique and in March Dr Jedynakiewicz and his colleague Nicholas Martin will chair an international symposium on the subject in Zurich, Switzerland.

Dr Jedynakiewicz was photographed during filming with (left to right) Vivienne Parry, Alan Watts (Professor of Restorative Dentistry) and Nicholas Martin. The patient, and the real star of the Tomorrow's World film was, Rhiann Williams, a student in the dental school who kindly agreed to have a damaged tooth restored in front of an audience of millions.
