The performance of biomedical research in the University's Faculty of Medicine has put it among the top ten medicine faculties in the UK. The Wellcome Trust looked at high quality UK biomedical research journals in the period 1988-95, and placed Liverpool 9th in the proportion of contributions. The top three places were taken by London, Cambridge and Oxford, followed by Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.
Professor Peter Johnson, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, was pleased with these figures and optimistic that the implementation of the Faculty's research strategy would strengthen further its position in the "top ten".
