SPIDER has been selected as the name for the new Student Computer System. A competition to name the system was launched in May and Gordon Denniss (aka Sam Denniss) from Computing Services carried off the prize for putting forward this winning suggestion.
SPIDER is an acronym for Student Programmes, Information, Degrees, Examinations and Registration. The name was chosen because it describes the system as a whole, reflects its usage, and has a reference to its web facility which will be beneficial to external parties, students and staff for accessin g general information in future.
This name was chosen from 50 excellent suggestions and the Student System Steering Group, who had the difficult task of deciding upon the winning name, would like to thank everyone who contributed.
For more information about the system please look out for the web pages, going under the name of SPIDER of course, due to hit your screens in August.
