Mr Paul D Losty, Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Surgery and Honorary Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Alder Hey Children's Hospital has been awarded the Stephen L Gans International Travelling Fellowship Award in Paediatric Surgery. This prestigious prize (value $ 5,000), provided by The National Su rgery Foundation in the United States of America, is awarded annually to a paediatric surgeon in recognition of an outstanding contribution to patient care and paediatric surgical research. Mr Losty has a major research interest in the basic mechanisms underlying normal and abnormal lung developmen t, fetal therapy and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The award will be used to visit a number of paediatric surgical centres in the United States specialising in ECMO, liquid ventilation and fetal surgery.
