The School of Dentistry has been presented with an addition to its collection of fine art. The family of the late Vincent Kearney made a gift to the School, in his memory, of a pair of very large abstract oil paintings which, together, suggest the theme of a circus. Vincent Kearney was a London-based maxillofacial surgeon who was born and educated in Liverpool. He graduated from the Dental School in 1972, and was a member of staff here in the early part of his career.
He was an avid collector of modern art and the pair of paintings had been commissioned for his home in London Docklands. He died suddenly, at the age of 43. A small presentation ceremony was held at the Dental School, attended by former friends and colleagues at which Professor John Scott, Dean of Dental Studies, formally accepted the gift on behalf of the School. The paintings will now form a permanent part of the University Art Collections.
