RAinbow over Harthill Copse....April 2009

Rainbow over Harthill Copse- April 2009

It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Harthill Copse was felled by Liverpool City Council on the direct instructions of Harthill Allotment Association.
It was felled on Wednesday 10th February 2010. We arrived on-site at 11.45am to find the copse had been totally devastated……it was carried out with military precision and had obviously been planned well in advance.
The manner of its destruction and the haste at which it was carried out was something I have never witnessed before and raises serious questions about the political intent behind this.
After our three yearlong battle to save this woodland….we are naturally enough down but NOT out!
Our fight to save Harthill Copse has sadly come to an end but our fight to make those responsible accountable for their actions is just beginning….

You can visit Philip Battle's blog for images of the devestation, personal comments and views!

Greater Spotted Woodpecker in Harthill Copse- Nov. 2008

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

Martin Luther King

In the Shadow Of John Lennon's old school (Quarry Bank) Liverpool lies a lovely little woodland. A place of quiet and solitude just three miles from Liverpool City Centre. Although tiny it is indeed mighty, consisting of over 50 trees and home to a vast variety of wildlife. It's the kind of woodland that tends to get overlooked in the great scheme of things but we believe that Tiny Woodlands Matter. And that's why we setup this website and have spent since the beginning of Jan 2007 campaigning to save Harthill Copse from being felled.

"I am delighted to support the Tiny Woodlands project. This clearly links into our aim to be a green and sustainable city and is an excellent example of how we can all play our part in securing the future of our planet. Congratulations to everyone involved. You are making a real difference" (Nov. 2007)

Senior Councillor For the Environment & Heritage: Berni Turner (Liverpool City Council)
