Adrian Henri Street Art Awards

Adrian Henri

The Adrian Henri Street Art Awards

Set up in 2001, the awards are made in celebration of Liverpool poet & painter Adrian Henri who died in December 2000. Adrian was one of the original 'Mersey Beat' poets, who along with Roger McGough, Brian Patten and others, made poetry hip and happening!! In the sixties, books like The Mersey Sound and The Liverpool Scene helped popularise the art of writing & reading poetry. The Mersey Poets had a great impact on our own lives and I'm sure have influenced many ordinary creatives.

Adrian was also a great artist and painter and a member of the innovative group –The Liverpool Scene

He was a champion of the Liverpool Arts Scene and in particular street artists and performers.

Adrian along with his partner Catherine Marcangeli where great supporters of our Festival of Street Art organised between 1998 and 2003. It is only fitting then that we honour one of Liverpool’s most famous and talented sons with this award in Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.

Many thanks to Catherine Marcangeli for giving her blessing to these awards.
