St James's Cemetery

St James's Cemetery was created from a stone quarry in 1825 by a man named John Foster Jr. Over the decades it has become somwhat disfigured but that does not seem to affect the awe inspiring effect visitors get.

It is full of huge ramps big enough to accomadate funeral carriages, well over a hundred catacombs were created in its sandstone walls. In doing this they have made St James's one of the most picturesque settings in the whole of the city.

St James's Gardens.

St James Cemetery is modelled on the Pere-la-Chaise cemetary in Paris.

It also contains the remains of William Huskisson who was killed by a train in 1830 at the opening of the Liverpool to Manchester railway.
