The Liverpool Medical Institution

The Liverpool Medical Institution is situated on the the corner of Mount Pleasant and Hope Street. Designed in 1836 by Clarke Rampling, it was built on the site of an inn where Willam Roscoe was born in 1753 - his father was the innkeeper at the time. Even though it was built in 1836 it was being thought of as early as 1779 when a group of doctors came together to create the Liverpool Medical Library, also linked with the library was the Liverpool Medical Society but these did not form untill 1833..

The building itself is triangular in design and its many rooms are beautifully lit by glazed domes. Inside the building there is a fine victorian lecture theatre, a central hall, an outstanding medical library and a number of well equipped semiar rooms.
This building is a great example of classical Liverpool architecture and its graceful apperance fits in perfectly with the rest of the Georgian architecture in Hope street.

The facilities are availble for hire. For more details, contact the administrator
