Music is all around us. From the songs of the birds to televisions programmes, we hear music every day. Ever since there have been people on earth, there has been music.

In Eastern traditions music is often passed down from generation to generation by musicians, who pick up and play what they have heard.

In Western traditions we tend to write music down, so that others can play and enjoy it.
