In China, each year is named after an animal. This year, 2009, is the year of the ox. This year we made ox hats.
We celebrated with some chinese music led by the recorder and guitar groups and by practising using chop sticks. We also heard some ox poems and some Aesop's fables about oxen. The children have since written their own fables.
Chinese New Year is celebrated in and around China,a very large country in Asia. China’s capital is Beijing.
Red is a lucky colour in China. At New Year, children look forward to waking up to find a red envelope full of money under their pillows.
The dragon is a symbol of Chinese New Year. In China dragons bring health and good luck and keep away evil spirits. We celebrated with a dragon dance chasing the white pearl.
