About The Weston Spirit (TWS) TWS was co-founded in 1987 by Simon Weston OBE, the Falklands veteran, Ben Harrison, now Chief Executive and Paul Oginsky, now Projects Manager. TWS opened drop in centres in Liverpool in 1987, Newcastle in 1989, Cardiff in 1990, London in 1997 & Sunderland in 1998. Main Aims of The Weston Spirit · To provide personal & social development programmes and projects for socially excluded young people who are at risk and are between the ages of 14 and 25. · To address social, economic, educational and recreational problems by exploring decision making processes and providing access to information enabling young people to make informed choices and decisions. · To provide access to opportunities which are not readily available to disadvantaged young people. · To support young people to realise their potential. TWS offers:- · A 12 month personal and social development programme for young people (aged 16 to 18) living within travelling distance of a Weston Spirit base, where they can build confidence, self esteem and new skills. · One day themed training courses for young people (aged 14 to 25). These courses can be employed together or separately and encourage personal development through confidence and self-awareness. Participants gain awareness about themselves, their actions and the consequences of their actions. · A project team dedicated to developing new and innovative methods of youth work, following TWS's core values of:- i. The uniqueness of each individual ii. Personal development iii. High quality. Equal Opportunities.
