SWIMMING
Andrew Jameson is without question Crosby's
most accomplished swimmer. Andrew attended Chesterfield High
and was born and brought up in the area.
After a string of domestic and international
successes Andrew won the bronze medal for the 100m butterfly
at the Seoul Olympics of 1988. It is worth noting that his
time of 53.30 would have been good enough to win the event
four years later in Barcelona.
There is still speculation that Andrew would have won the
final if Duncan Goodhew hadn't tipped him to not only win
it but break the World record as well.
We can only assume Andrew will remain
Crosby's best ever swimmer as with the closure of Crosby baths
local youngsters now have the choice of swimming in the River
Mersey or the Victoria Road duck pond until the new baths
are completed.
