This picture is taken from the entrance of Crosby Library
looking towards the Plaza Community cinema. The Plaza was
recently reopened as a community cinema after the previous
owners, Apollo Leisure, closed it claiming that a cinema in
Crosby was not viable. Following a major public campaign funds
were raised to open the cinema under its present name. There
has been a cinema on this site for many years, and previous
names include The Apollo, The Cannon and The Classic.

Next to the Plaza on Crosby Road North
is the Ferndale Lodge pub which was known as the Kiss Club
from the early 1980's to the mid 90's. The Kiss Club originally
opened as Crosby Snooker Club, but the space available to
snooker and pool was eaten away by the bar/dance area until
it became just a pub. Next to the Ferndale Lodge is K &
C Douglas newsagents who operate 3 shops in Crosby and have
been open for 20 years. Also on this block is the Bronte fish
and chip shop which was on South Road until a couple of years
ago.

This unattractive building on the corner
of Hawthorne Road is Secrets nightclub, formerly known as
Allinsons Dance Hall until the 1960's. The photo is taken
from the car park of the White House pub which has undergone
many name changes over the years including Gillespies and
Tut n Shive before reverting to the original White House name.

This is the Crosby Youth Centre on Coronation Road. The uninviting
exterior of the building goes some way to explain why the
perception in the town is that not enough is done for the
youth.
