The TUC Workforce Development ProgrammeThe TUC workforce development programme has been designed to equip trade union representatives with the knowledge and skills necessary to more easily engage with employers in the strategic planning and execution of training and development initiatives within the organisation. The programme currently offers three Open College accredited modules:
A fourth two-day module is currently being developed which will address issues of good practice around appraisals and personal development plans. This module will be available in the autumn. The workforce development programme had been developed to complement the TUC's very successful learning representative's training programme, particularly the core five-day frontline advice and guidance course. Where frontline advice and guidance training enables the learning representative to support and realise the learning needs of the individual member. The programme of workforce development modules enables trade union representatives active at the organisational level to work with employers in planning and agreeing training and development and learning strategies and frameworks for the workforce as a whole. The programme has been supported through funding from the union learning fund and the Regional Development Agency and has the support of local learning and skills councils in the region. A report on a recent conference on workforce development held in the North West gives an outline of the overall project to date. Further information on the individual modules' aims and objectives can be obtained using the links as highlighted above.
