The Learning Rep Network
The NW Learning Rep Network is aimed at supporting Union representatives who
are actively involved in promoting learning opportunities to their members.
The Network has been designed to provide various ways in which Learning Reps can communicate with
each other, and keep their information and knowledge up to date. It is hoped that this support and
interaction can ensure that the members they serve receive a quality service, and
that the role of the Learning Rep can be developed to the full within Unions.
Currently, Learning Reps are at the forefront of introducing and negotiating around some of the
new and innovative developments around Lifelong Learning including:
- Setting up workplace learning centres
- The introduction of Individual Learner accounts and the employer's contribution
- Setting up Collective Learner Funds within workplaces
- The introduction of N.V.Q. programmes in the workplace
- The promotion and development of Key and Basic Skills strategies with employers.
Such work is invaluable, and at BfS development of the Learning Rep role is seen as a
key element in the future of workplace learning activities, and the Network can aid such
development.
