If
you have an interest or skills in arts, crafts design, music,
drama and creative writing, then there are many organisations
have opportunities to suit you.
Day
centres, youth groups, hospitals, hospices and club for people
with disabilities run therapeutic or arts and crafts sessions.
Volunteers do not need to have any particular artistic skills,
just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.
If
you have a special interest of skills you could share with others,
you could become a volunteer tutor helping at hospital classes,
life skills programmes for young people or 'Active Age' sessions
for older people.
Drama
enthusiasts can get involved with youth theatres working with
young dramatists or if you like working behind the scenes volunteers
can get involved with stage design, props, makeup, lighting,
sound and production. Gladstone Theatre has a 'friends' group,
who regularly help in all aspects of running the theatre, from
box office to production to bar work.
Musicians
of all types are welcomed at many youth groups, day centres,
and public events. If you have DJ'ing skills, youth summer schemes
often run courses where volunteers can help young people to
learn the skills.
People
with creative writing skills could contribute towards newspaper
articles, newsletters, text for marketing and internet use,
creating information resources and materials or helping to produce
text for funding bids.
