A
large number of charities run shops to help raise funds for
their work. Some large national Charities have chains of shops,
but smaller local charities sometimes have shops which often
help to raise a considerable amount of money for the charity.
Shops can be a very important aspect of fundraising.
Many
of these shops are run by volunteers. Nationally between 150,00
and 175,000 volunteers get involved, but there is always need
for new volunteers.
With
over 60 Charity Shops across Wirral, help is always needed.
The types of jobs volunteers do are numerous:
- Sort,
steam and press clothes
- Price
and label items
- Serve
on the till
- Keep
shop tidy
- Making
posters and signs for use in the shop
- Arranging
window displays
- Making
arrangements for collection or dispatch of stock for recycling
- Helping
with some basic accounts
Volunteers
work on a rota basis usually for 3 hours at a time. As well
as high street charity shops volunteers are also needed to help
at hospital shops and visitors shops.
Alternatively
you may be interested in volunteering in a coffee/tea bar either
in one of the hospitals, at community drop in centres, the magistrates
courts, day centres or visitors centres.
