The
charity sector needs to market itself just as effectively as
the business community. If you have good advertising ideas and
understand the media world then your skills would be invaluable
to many community groups.
If
you have design skills there are opportunities to get involved
with newsletters, marketing campaigns, leaflet design and image
design. With the internet being used more by charities, volunteers
who have web authoring and website maintenance skills are increasingly
needed.
People
who have an interest in music and radio could get involved with
the hospital radio stations at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge.
There are opportunities for broadcasting, working in the record
library and collecting music request from the patients. Some
people who started as volunteers in the hospital radios now
work for independent radio stations.
Volunteers
who have photography or video skills can get involved by maybe
being an organisations photographer, going to events and recording
the event.
Some
organisations have opportunities for volunteers to give presentations
and talks to other groups, to raise awareness and gain publicity.
Fundraising
is vital to all not for profit groups. Volunteers can get involved
with sponsored events, raffles, lotteries, Fun Days and jumble
sales. Volunteers can also get involved in researching funding
sources and increasingly needed is help applying for funding
to Trusts, Government and Europe or creating business links
for corporate sponsorship. Training for various aspects of fundraising
is available if needed through Wirral CVS.
