Hospital
voluntary work covers a wide range of activities, with opportunities
for volunteers to help at all of Wirral's NHS Hospitals.
Some volunteers work on the wards assisting with meals and serving
refreshments, looking after plants and flowers, talking with
patients and helping with some clerical duties. Others get involved
in the Hospital Welcoming service, assisting reception staff,
guiding people to hospital departments and dealing with enquiries.
Volunteers
also help in the tea bars, shops, outpatient departments and
the chaplaincy teams. Volunteers at St. Catherine's Hospital
can help with home visits for outpatients and administration
in a number of departments.
People
who have an interest in music and radio could get involved with
the hospital radio stations at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge.
There are opportunities for broadcasting, working in the record
library and collecting music request from the patients. Some
people who started as volunteers in the hospital radios now
work for independent radio stations.
There
are also opportunities for volunteers who may want to work with
patients on an individual basis by assisting in computer classes
at Clatterbridge, getting involved in therapeutic activities
or visiting and supporting patients in aftercare schemes.
There
are a number of organisations that offer domestic care services,
usually for older or disabled people. These could involve helping
with shopping, house work and personal care. Bebington CVS Village
Care supports residents around the Bebington area and there
are other organisations that support various communities across
Wirral.
