For
people who are under 16 and wish to volunteer the choice can
be limited. This is due to many of the volunteering opportunities
only taking place during school time and insurance that organisation
have to have, to cover volunteers (for accidents for example)
does not always cover those under 16 years old.
There
are however some fantastic opportunities available in Wirral.
Fortune
Youth Theatre based in Bebington runs on Saturdays, to train
and work with children in dance and drama. There are classes
for 5yrs - 16yrs, and volunteers who are under 16 can help with
the younger children.
Wallasey
Sea Cadets has a young cadet section for those under 16. Some
Guides and Scouts Groups may have work with the Brownies, Cubs
or Rainbows, for young people who are in their groups. If
you go to a youth club, you may be able to get involved in helping
there, perhaps on a night you don't usually go.
WRVS
- meals on wheels. There are opportunities for under 16's to
become involved with this service at weekends and in holiday
time. Volunteers can help to deliver meals to people who need
the service, across Wirral.
Some
primary schools welcome young people who may have a 'community
slot' in their school time table, who want to help in classrooms
as classroom assistants.
If
you are under 16 and want to volunteer don't forget to 'ok'
it with parents or guardians and make sure you are able to get
to and from where you volunteer safely.
