If
you have a passion for sports or just enjoy a particular sport,
then you could get involved with sports activities across Wirral.
The
Sports Development Unit works with young people, particularly
from deprived areas, using sports as a way of integrating young
people and helping confidence building. Volunteers
can help in facilitating the sporting activities and there are
opportunities for volunteers to access sports leadership training
During
the school holidays there are also various schemes run by groups
such as New Ferry Village Hall, Hoylake & District CVS and Future
Focus. Most of the sporting opportunities are focused on young
people.
For
people who enjoy swimming there are swimming clubs for people
with disabilities and volunteers are always needed to help at
their weekly sessions.
Wirral
Riding for The Disabled, which holds sessions at three site
in Wirral, relies on volunteers to assist the riders in mounting
and dismount the horses and lead the horses.
There
are opportunities for keen sailors to offer their time as voluntary
crew members on sailing trips for young people, who face difficulties.
And for land lovers, the Walking for Health Initiatives, has
opportunities across Wirral for people to lead walks in semi
urban and rural areas. These walks are designed for enjoyment
and health.
For
those in volunteering positions with unsupervised access to
children or vulnerable adults, criminal records checks are necessary.
