There
are nearly 100 admin based volunteering opportunities in
Wirral that volunteers can get involved with. Some welcome help
with general office duties such as filing, photocopying and answering
the phone, while other groups may need volunteer receptionists.
Much admin
work is computer based, but if you are not familiar with computers
there are tasks which do not involve computers, for example -
indexing books and equipment, putting together resource packs,
updating records, gathering information by telephone and filing.
Often
a volunteer may be in charge of or assisting with a particular
project, such as helping to arrange events, working on publicity,
newsletters, stock and resource updating or book keeping.
Volunteers
who have computer skills, such as data inputting, database development,
word processing, desk top publishing and spreadsheets can help
with a variety of the day to day computer based administrative
tasks. Helping keep databases up to date, collating statistics,
newsletters and correspondence are some of the main tasks involved
in many computer admin roles.
If you
prefer to work at home and have a computer with access to the
internet, you might want to consider becoming a 'virtual volunteer'
and offer your time and skills with out leaving the comfort of
your own home. You could get involved in designing a web page,
doing on line research or contributing to on line newsletters.
Anyone
who has skills in admin or wants to gain skills, would be ideal
for volunteering in administration and computing. This type of
work often does not involve a great deal of face to face interaction
with people outside the working environment and so especially
suits people who don't like to be on the 'front line'.
