PROTHERO CENTRE FOR RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING The Work of the Prothero Centre The main focus of our work is offering counselling for people who have relationship difficulties. This will include seeing you as an individual or with your partner. What is Counselling? Counselling provides an opportunity for you to share thoughts and feelings about whatever is troubling you. Your counsellor's role is not to make judgements or to give you advice. The councellor's task is to provide safe and accepting conditions in which they can help you to help yourself. The counsellor will listen to you and respond sensitively. They will work with you to help you understand yourself better and to make sense of your problems with a view to enabling you to live a more satisfying life. Through counselling many people are able to change and to learn how to live more satisfactorily with what they are not able to change. Who can be helped by Counselling? You do not have to be in crisis to seek counselling for many reasons. They may be: Unhappy, lonely, anxious or depressed Wanting to relate more easily to others Worried about tensions and anxiety within the family or in the workplace Having a personal crisis in their life Confidentiality It is particularly important to know that we give respect and confidentiality high priority in our work. This will be discussed with you in the initial session. Appointments procedure Telephone 643 1333 If our answering machine is on, please leave you name and number, and times when you are available to be contacted. We will contact you as soon as possible. All initial appointments must be confirmed by you 24 hours in advance. You are asked to ensure that whatever possible, you give adequate notice of a cancellation, so that we may notify your counsellor. | ||
