Dave Ellwand asks for articles/information on Bagpipes for three projects:
1] Chanter, the journal of the Bagpipe Society, of which Dave will shortly take over editorship. Chanter is produced every 3/4 months on behalf of the Bagpipe Society, which exists to promote the knowledge of the world of bagpipes and encourage bagpipe playing throughout the world.
Chanter invites contributions to the journal, and its next feature in September will contain articles on the Gaita in Galician Rock Music, the English National Bagpipes Collection at Morpeth Chantry Museum, the hybrid pipe of North Yorkshire, pipes from scrap materials!2] The Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World: entry on "Bagpipes." Information about popular/contemporary music wanted to update this article is wanted by Dave. 3] Research into the ways traditional piping is taught or passed on. Dave is submitting a thesis on comparisons between areas with living traditions of piping, and those where the styles/modalities have been reconstructed, particularly looking at Catalan Sac de Gemecs, Cornemuse du Morvan and Northumbrian pipes. Any articles information or ideas about the ways of transmitting/teaching of traditional music anywhere, but especially pipes, would be very welcome.
